about
Written in its first draft over 3 years ago, "Dawning" was initially supposed to be released on In Dreams There Are No Deathbeds. After some lyrical revisions, a decision was made to cut it from the record. This song needed to be re-recorded, and the rest of the album was already getting mixed. Here is "Dawning" in its final form. I hope that it finds your ears safely during this exceedingly difficult time, and that it helps you process some of what is happening in this world right now in a way that is the most helpful to you.

lyrics
I can't clear
my head of all this fog.
It has been
slowing me down
for far too long.
I can't rid
my throat of all this tar,
and it's starting to be able to be heard.
(when I sing)
Now, I have been worn down,
All those filaments got caught between the bones,
and drilled through.
Though they were young,
they had been damaged.
You helped me discharge
those live wires,
You helped me clear the smoke out of my lungs,
But now I'm
burned out
my well is running dry,
I'm all tapped out of words,
and I am still waiting
for the dawning,
of some cataclysmic truth
to open up the floor and wake me from my sleep.
After those conversations
that stabbed me (with truth),
reconciliation (when it comes)
will
uproot me
from this place
and take me home.
I just need to go home.
